LESSONS FROM MY MOTHER

Some of life's greatest lessons are not taught in classrooms—they are learned quietly at home, through everyday moments and the example of those who love us most. For me, my first and most influential teacher has always been my mother. She might be rude sometimes, she might advise with lengthy paragraphs, yet there are many things to learn from her words and through her actions. She taught me many things, which I usually tell my friends and others to learn.
She was once an ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) who was working in a labour ward. She has seen thousands of labour cases, and people used to bless and thank her for safely carrying out the process because there would be two lives involved in that. I can see that she took the biggest responsibility of saving two lives, which is not easy. That courage and confidence are the first and foremost lessons that I learnt from her.
I don't know whether she is passionate about her work or not. Even after facing so many health issues, she is still working. I remember when I was in my 4th or 5th standard. The full oxygen cylinder kept in the hospital's pharmacy, which can weigh up to 30–45 kg, fell on her leg and cracked her bone. She was on medical leave for months, and she bounced back again after her recovery.
Then came COVID-19. No one can forget that pandemic, especially the people who suffered by losing their loved ones. People like government officers and medical professionals really struggled a lot. Not only them, but their families too. My mom was also detected with COVID-19 three times, where the second attack worsened her health a lot. I remember her words like a video recorded by my eyes and stored in my mind while my father was taking her to the hospital. She was saying, "I don't know whether I will come or not. Please don't be irresponsible. Take care of everything and make duas for me." These were her words.
Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah, Allah is always the Greatest. She recovered well, Alhamdulillah.
This is resilience, the next lesson which I learnt from her.
Allah says in the Qur’an,
And it is Allah’s Will to lighten your burdens, for humankind was created weak. (Surah An-Nisa 4:28)
Which shows that we humans are not perfect, and we are weak too. Even my mom made a few mistakes which I don't want to make. Those are also the teachings I learned from her. Sometimes, I felt that a few people around her took her for granted, which made me wonder why she was so innocent.
This taught me to be very conscious while handling the people around me.
Every mother is a gem to her children.
I have learnt many things from my mom. She is a blessing from Allah (SWT) to me.
There is a hadith that shows the importance of her,
Abu Huraira reported: A man asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, “Who is most deserving of my good company?” The Prophet said, “Your mother.” The man asked, “Then who?” The Prophet said, “Your mother.” The man asked again, “Then who?” The Prophet said, “Your mother.” The man asked again, “Then who?” The Prophet said, “Your father.”

Subhunallah…..
This is how a mom play an important role in all our lives.
As I reflect on my mother's journey, I realize that the greatest lessons in my life were never taught through words alone but through her actions. Her courage, resilience, sacrifices, faith, and even the mistakes she made have shaped my thoughts and the person I strive to become. I pray that Allah (SWT) rewards her for every hardship she endured and grants me the ability to carry forward the values she instilled in me. Alhamdulillah for blessing me with such an incredible mother. May Allah grant all our mothers good health, happiness, and the highest place in Jannah. Ameen.
To conclude this, I want to dedicate this poem to all mothers, especially to my AMMA:
அம்மா | TRANSLATION IN ENGLISH |
| Mother, in your womb, I first found my breath, Mother, your practice made me talk To learn from you, there are lessons, in thousands You are a diamond, God sent me from Heavens My mischief, my notoriousness Did that make you cry? For all of that, Will you forgive me? Mother, I am from you, And you're in my victories. |
