The month of March was not a tightly packed month but quite an eventful one for the girls of GIO Chennai.
We started off this month by circulating a video through our social media platforms on March 1st, 2021, celebrating the ZERO DISCRIMINATION DAY. The video was directed on the awareness of the UNAIDS Campaign, urging us to focus on various forms of inequalities. This topic was the need of the hour, proof being the increased incidents of racism and hate, directed on people based on their religion, gender, colour, race, class, ethnicity, etc. ever since the start of the new decade. It focused on how we could help on eliminating the on-going discrimination by standing together against it.
The month of March is widely popular for one of it’s special days – WOMEN’S DAY. It is celebrated every year on the 8th of March. The young ladies of the GIRLS ISLAMIC ORGANISATION Chennai, celebrated this day by hosting a group discussion competition on 7th March, 2021 focusing on three topics namely, a) “Women in Leadership: achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world” (International Women’s Day 2021 theme); b) To dream or not to dream? – women and their ambitions; c) Self-love & acceptance – why? & why not? & 4) On & off-camera – are we portraying what we are living? The members & associates of GIO Chennai were requested to join this event. The Chief guest, Dr. & Adv. Rashmi, a profound psychologist and a lawyer, was given the opportunity to felicitate the best speakers with certificates of achievement while the remaining participants were awarded with a certificate of appreciation for partaking in the event.

21st March is widely celebrated as the WORLD FORESTRY DAY. To celebrate this day effectively, the girls of GIO Chennai had planned to gift plant saplings to their neighbours, along with a gift card consisting of hadeeth, to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our global environmental asset. We also decorated physical posters, made on charts and put it up on the local masjid bulletins. This aided as a form of Dawah as well.
On March 22nd, a workshop hosted by GIO Gujarat requested our very own co-secretary of GIO Chennai, Sister Atoofa Nasiha, to act as the tutor of the workshop. The workshop focused on teaching BASIC DIGITAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT such as image and video making only for the cadre of GIO Gujarat.
To conclude the activities for the month, a fun and creative workshop focusing on the BASICS OF WEAVING was conducted by GIO Chennai as a part of the monthly workshop plan on 28th March, the final Sunday of March. The workshop was mentored by Sister Maimoona Bushra, the State President, GIO Tamil Nadu & Puducherry, exclusively for girls.
