CHOSEN MONTH

Allah, He chose this month as the most sacred as reaching the month of Ramadan is a great blessing and favor.

The sign for Ramadan starting is not an earthly incident, therefore no one can tamper with it. The sign is something that is far from reach.

When does Ramadan begin? The sighting of the crescent of Ramadan, as it is based on the lunar calendar. Even those who don’t fast question its arrival. The entire world anticipates it.

Hadith says:

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah stated: 'There has come to you Ramadan, a blessed month, which Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has enjoined you to fast. In it the gates of Heavens are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and every devil is chained up. In it Allah has a night which is better than a thousand months" - Sunan An Nisa’i

  • Ramadan is the month of opportunities:

There are opportunities in every second throughout Ramadan.

We don’t want to lose opportunities in the month of Ramadan. Don’t occupy yourself with unnecessary visits and distractions. The greatest opportunities are before Iftar, but it is very important to not stress, but to prepare with a good intention.

  • Ramadan is the month of repentance:

If a person has any bad habits or addictions, then the month of Ramadan is the month when a person can truly repent. We need to work on our faults seek repentance. If you want to become a better person, then Ramadan for you, and Allah is ever willing to accept your prayers.

  • Ramadan is the month of patience:

The month of Ramadan is the month of patience. We need to be patient. Those who are patient will get their reward in full. Victory comes to those who are patient and Ramadan is a school which teaches us the art of patience.

  • Ramadan is the month of gratitude:

We need to be grateful for the blessings, opportunities, repentance, patience and forgiveness which we receive during Ramadan. We have to appreciate all that we have during our fast.

  • Ramadan is the month of joy:

Ramadan is a month when you need to be happy and merry.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah said, "Allah the Exalted and Majestic said: Every act of the son of Adam is for him, except As-Siyam (the fasting) which is (exclusively) for Me, and I will reward him for it.

The fasting person has two joyous occasions, one at the time of breaking his fast, and the other at the time of meeting his Rabb.

  • Ramadan is the month of fasting:

Fasting means to hold. Fasting teaches us complete obedience and submission; that our life is for Allah. This is reminding us of the angels; they don’t eat or drink, they don’t speak or do anything except by Allah’s permission.

Fasting is not only about not eating or drinking, but there are two conditions. We have to fast with faith, we fast for Allah’s sake. We’re not fasting because we want to lose weight or because everyone is doing it. We fast with ihtisab, hoping for forgiveness of past sins.

Along with a sincere prayer to enter paradise through the door called, Ar-Rayyan. Specifically, for those who fast.

  • Ramadan is the month of Taqwa:

Surah Al Baqarah ,183: "O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqûn"

Taqwa is the collection of all actions of the heart. Ramadan teaches us to have taqwa which is to not follow your desires. Our soul also needs to be fed, but not by material things, instead with the Quran, dhikr, Salah, etc.

  • Ramadan is the month of the Quran:

The revealing of the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind with clear proofs for the criterion between right and wrong.

Be it reciting, memorizing, pondering, or acting upon the Quran. The Quran will intercede for us on the Day of Judgment.

  • Ramadan is the month of generosity

Ramadan teaches us to be giving and not greedy. It’s teaches us to be compassionate.

The Prophet was the most generous, though he was not the richest in wealth, he was the richest in generosity and kindness.

Five pieces of advice to purifying the self before Ramadan

1. Leave what doesn’t concern you.

2. You are the best judge to yourself, self-evaluation is key.

3. Take the Book of Allah to heart.

4. Ikhlas – be sincere in your fasting, prayer and dhikr – do it for Allah.

5. Account yourself before you are called for your accountability.

With that said, all we have to hold in our mind and hearts during this Holy month, is the reason and purpose we are put on this Earth and to carry out every single deed with good intention, that all we do is for the sake of Allah and to emerge the best in His eyes.
